Akyver - Multiwall Polycarbonate
Compact polycarbonate with coating - Varieties and possible applications
The use of compact polycarbonates both in industry and in transport or construction is very common. In many cases, either due to very restrictive requirements of use or regulations, standard-range PCs do not work and some of our specialties with abrasion protection have to be used.
In these cases, our PC08, PC09 Or the PC13, are the most suitable option. In addition to the usual characteristics of polycarbonate, they are defined by their MARGARD hard coating, which provides them with a solid surface coating on one side or both, depending on the variety. Thanks to this property, these plates are highly resistant to abrasion and suitable for outdoor use, responding satisfactorily to adverse weather conditions. In addition to providing them with high resistance to chemical substances, such as cleaning products, paints and adhesives.
To determine the abrasion resistance of a material, it is subjected to the Taber test. A special metal wheel weighing 500 grams rolls on the surface of the product for a defined number of cycles. Usually the test is performed for 100 and 500 cycles and after the test the% of surface clouding is measured. The haze% is a value that will indicate the loss of light transmission of the material. This test is very useful for determining the behavior of a material under intensive use.

This series of PC boards with surface coating can be grouped into four major categories:
- Suitable for flat applications with UV protection
- Suitable for shaping/Anti-fog
- Flame retardants
Suitable for flat applications
Our PC09 MRX is a plate with Margard treatment and UV protection on both sides, which makes it highly resistant to abrasion, can only be used in flat applications, does not allow cold bending and cannot be thermoformed.
Excellent for use as glazing in buildings in areas of intensive use, school doors and windows and as an anti-vandal enclosure.
The PC08 MR5E is also a plate with Margard treatment and UV protection on both sides. It is highly resistant to impact, neither chipping nor breaking into pieces, so it is commonly used in vandal-proof glazing, safety glazing, safety screens and acoustic screens.

Its unique surface coating resists graffiti paints and allows for easy surface repair. To clean the paints on the surface, simply apply Butil-Cellosolve with a soft, clean cloth to remove paint or ink from a pen. Afterwards, the surface should be washed with mild soap and warm water, then rinse with clean water to remove any residue.
It has a 10-year warranty against breakage and a 5-year limited warranty against yellowing, loss of light transmission and coating failures.

Suitable for shaping/Anti-fog
The PC08 CTG-E plate is a transparent material with a solid coating on both sides, which provides good abrasion behavior, as well as excellent optical quality and impact resistance. It comes in thin thicknesses, is suitable for forming and is especially designed for all types of visors and protective goggles.
There is the PC13 CTG-AF variant, which provides anti-fog properties on one side, while on the other it has an abrasion-resistant, high-quality optical and impact-resistant coating. It is commonly used in protective glasses for sports or safety, windshields, meters, etc.

Flame retardants
Our PC08 MR5EFR combines the excellent properties of the PC08 MR5E board with flame retardant properties.
Designed for use in flat applications, its hardness, resistance to abrasion and transparency make it an ideal material for applications both in the land transport and electricity/electronic industries, with a UL94 fire rating.
In addition, it is highly resistant to substances such as oils, paints and strong cleaning products, making it resistant to graffiti and allowing it to be cleaned repeatedly. It has a 10-year warranty against breakage and a 5-year limited warranty against yellowing, loss of light transmission and coating failures.
