This Christmas, “Origen” is going to turn Plaça Sant Jaume in Barcelona into a visual and sensory meeting place.

Created by artists Xevi Bayona and Alex Posada, this giant 20-pointed star symbolizes the stellar origin of the universe. The super star of 9 meters in diameter and a length of 4 meters at each tip becomes a luminous beacon that invites reflection and wonder, symbolizing the birth of the universe through light.

This star is not just an artwork to be observed during the day, but at night it becomes the protagonist of a light spectacle, projecting light patterns onto the façades of the City Hall and the Generalitat. Passersby can enjoy the show every 30 minutes, synchronizing their mobile devices with the music via a QR code available in the square.
This interactive component gives spectators an immersive and personalized experience.

One of the key elements of the design is the use of our Policril (cast PMMA with “ice” finish 120003). Our acrylic was chosen by the designers for its optimal aesthetic and structural properties. The chosen Policril is characterized for being a translucent material, of long durability, ideal for dispersing light evenly. Thanks to that, it diffuses the light from the LEDs distributed across the structure, creating an impactful and attractive visual spectacle.

Although PMMA is a very lightweight material, it is resistant to impacts and to adverse weather conditions. Therefore, the durability and safety of the installation during Christmas is guaranteed.

“Origen” not only illuminates the square, but also incites the public to think about the origin of the universe and to dialogue with it. Since everything we know is contained in light, a primordial force that ignited the universe and gave shape to stars.

Thanks to the combination of Policril with a metallic support structure, the artists Xevi Bayona and Alex Posada have succeeded in creating an installation that is not only visually impressive, but also safe and durable, becoming a symbol that seeks the reflection of the viewer right in the center of Barcelona.
