LED lighting and specific PMMA qualities

In the world of lighting and advertising, the use of PMMA and LED technology is common. Thanks to the easy machining of acrylic and its excellent light diffusion capacity, the use of LED technology results in a product highly valued by our label clients. Its easy mechanization allows the process of assembling the LEDs during the construction phase of the sign or backlit element to be carried out easily and with excellent results.
Unlike other types of luminaires, such as incandescent, halogen or fluorescent lamps, the location of the light point is completely disguised in the resulting product. Thanks to this, the backlit element is characterized by a homogeneous diffusion of light without shadows.
In order to understand why these good results are achieved, in addition to explaining the main advantages that characterize LED technology in signage elements and furniture. We think it is appropriate to explain in broad strokes what an LED lamp is and the improvements that this system offers compared to other alternatives, in addition to remembering that specialties in our catalog achieve maximum performance with this technology.
LED lamp: This type of lamp is one that does not use wire, gas, filaments or halogens inside, since it uses light-emitting diode technology.
In essence, a semiconductor material that is capable of emitting electromagnetic radiation in the form of light. Its operation is based on the effect of Electro-Luminescence, in which, through direct polarization stimulation, it allows this device to release energy in the form of a photon, whose color is determined by the energy band that has been stimulated.
The resulting light is not very intense, so to achieve a level of lumens similar to other alternatives on the market, such as incandescent or compact fluorescent, those with LED technology must be formed by grouping several units, depending on the number of LEDs in the module, the resulting light will be of greater or lower intensity.

We must not forget its use in urban applications, such as street lighting or signage lamps, as well as all kinds of road signs. It is common in these uses, that the LEDs are embedded in the material after milling, because the color is denser, the strips of 60 or 120 LEDs cannot be seen through the material. In addition to diffusing light better, its high light efficiency leads to optimal energy consumption.
Policril 120120 is widely used in small thicknesses in the lighting market due to its excellent performance in terms of brightness, diffusion and homogeneity of light when combined with this type of lamp. Due to its properties, Policril 120120 is particularly suitable for bright letters, light boxes, backlighting on shelves and store furniture.
Policril STD, specially designed for body letters Policril 120061, is visibly greyish than our Policril 120129, but shines brighter. Specially designed for uses where a “halo” effect is sought. This is the case of letters that protrude from the label or images embedded in an ACP box. The lighting is provided by the LEDs located on the back panel and it is important to maintain the appropriate distance from the LEDs to avoid the “spotting” effect, which can occur if the plate is too close to the light source.
